Within its bounds, the world can be re-ordered. It is a place of refuge and a site of cultivation, where the personal and the communal, the wild and the tamed, the mundane and the mythological can intertwine. In Oasis, her first solo exhibition at Medūza, artist Evy Jokhova transforms the gallery into such a space – a sanctuary for reflection and an archaeology of imagination. The project finds its roots in the social fabric and DIY creativity of communal gardens in the Baltic region. These are spaces of remarkable resourcefulness and personal myth-making, where private narratives are cultivated on shared ground. Jokhova’s interdisciplinary practice has long investigated the dialogue between social anthropology, vernacular architecture, and art. Here, she turns her attention to the fertile ground where everyday objects sprout into symbols, exploring how enduring folklore stories can be woven from the threads of what was and what could be. Informing this investigation is the work of Lithuanian archaeologist Marija Gimbutas, whose theories on a peaceful, matrifocal culture find resonance within the exhibition. Jokhova does not seek to illustrate the past, but rather to reactivate its spirit. She applies Gimbutas’ method of “archaeomythology” – reading deep meaning in humble artifacts – to the present day, treating the contemporary garden as a living archaeological site. In this space, ancient symbols of regeneration find their modern counterparts in the mass-produced as well as artist’s handcrafted objects, creating a dialogue between the deep time of prehistory and gallery is transformed into a landscape populated by these new relics. At the entrance, a quilted textile collage acts as a playful emissary. The piece unites elements from Jokhova’s previous work on Estonian mythology with the current context, creating a narrative in which Estonian gnomes, in a nod to the travelling gnome in the film Amélie, visit the communal gardens of Lithuania. Elsewhere, a large, dinosaur-like egg stands as an artefact of a speculative myth, its form both familiar and fantastical. This symbol of deep time, however, is presented with a sense of irony: it sits atop a kitschy, mass-produced garden frog statue purchased from “Senukai”, Lithuania’s largest chain of DIY and gardening superstores. This gesture is central to the exhibition’s logic, upending the distinction between a profound, handcrafted myth and an everyday garden ornament. It captures the blend of high creativity and consumer kitsch that characterises the resourceful, bricolage aesthetic of the communal gardens. These objects are complemented by a collaboration with woodcarver Linas Žulkus: a photograph of a misty, placeless road is juxtaposed with a frame constructed from Palanga driftwood. This frame, carved with forest animals from Lithuanian folklore, does more than simply contain the image; it actively grounds it, embedding universal journey within the local narrative. In a time marked by widespread ecological anxiety, the turn to the garden is not a gesture of escapism. Instead, Evy Jokhova’s Oasis presents this act as a potent model for resilience and regeneration. Here, the garden is posited as an act of poetic (resi)stance, a space where mythmaking can be cultivated. This alchemy, fusing ancient cosmology with the vibrant, living practice of the communal garden, suggests that the creation of myth is not a relic of the past, but a necessary activity to be cultivated in the here and now. Functioning as a seed planted in the fertile ground of the gallery, the exhibition is a reminder that in the simple, generative act of tending to a place, we engage in the fragile art of world-making, creating a refuge where new narratives can take root and grow. Terns circle high above my head, making soothing, yet slightly alarming sounds in the wide blue sky, where not a single cloud can be seen. The warmth of a late summer day makes the air feel heavy on my cheeks and collarbones, as the wind keeps gushing over the urban landscape. Wherever I look, I see grey apartment blocks with their many windows, all covered by faded patterned curtains, shielding the interiors from the burning sun. I am mesmerised by the silence of this seemingly solitary, yet deeply communal place. I decide to sit down on the edge of the pavement, in the shadow cast by one of those architectural giants, Khrushchevkas. I find myself staring at a strangely composed scene unfolding in front of me. In the midst of violet garden pansies, intermixed with weeds such as dandelions, nettles, and plantains, strange-looking figures have found their place. I see a gleaming white, sculpture-like object that at first resembles a swan, but with a seashell instead of a head, wide open, with a fake pearl resting in its centre. Next to it stands a shape depicting a nude woman (or is it a toad?), which enigmatically appears to consist of a pair of arms in place of legs––and this time, a fountain sprouting from her head. I begin to notice how these two hybrids, the most visible at first, are surrounded by several others. Oddly assembled creatures are accompanied by bricks laid in circles to border the flowerbed, old tree trunks topped with flowerpots, and rubble edging the entire composition, all decorated with self-made sculptural pieces of ladybirds and colourful mosaics. I find myself thinking that this kind of carefully composed communal garden scene could appear anywhere in the suburbs of cities in the Baltic region, or perhaps across Eastern Europe at large. * In this layered composition of clutter, creativity, and care, the garden begins to feel less like a static space and more like a living body—one shaped by many hands, unfinished thoughts and doings over time. This resonates with Erin Manning’s insight that “A body is a field of relation out of which and through which worldings occur and evolve. We know neither where a world begins nor where a body ends.”[1] In the context of communal gardens, the notion of a body as a relation-scape, rather than an individual entity, becomes evident through a gathering of visual gestures––or through what the artist Evy Jokhova, in the exhibition Oasis, termed ‘emotive craft’. Each element within the compositions of sculptural hybrids and decorated flowerbeds first appeared as a singular expression by various individuals inhabiting the mundane urban landscape of apartment blocks, and the in-between outdoor spaces, between buildings, parking areas, rubbish bins, and playgrounds. Over time, these visual gestures found companions, as new elements were added. One might even have found it important to maintain or elevate the existing body of work simply by fixing cracks, adding an extra layer of paint, or, more boldly, by introducing a new feature, which explains how an oversized fake pearl ended up in an open seashell, placed atop a swan-looking hybrid. Worlds are created and invented––but not only that: passers-by begin to cohabit these worlds in turn. “What is at stake in the field of relation is how the relation evolves, how it expresses itself, what it becomes, what it can do. The relation can never be properly called human. It may pass through the human or connect to certain human tendencies, but in and of itself, it is always more-than-human,”[2] Manning continues. The notion of the more-than-human extends beyond anthropocentric agency—beyond animals, plants, ecosystems, or weather—into the realm of subconscious worldbuilding that can only emerge hand in hand with storytelling. This resonates with the central question of the exhibition: how myth inspires objects, and how, in turn, objects give rise to new myths—unfolding multiple narratives and evoking the notion of what lies beneath the seemingly flawless world. These sculpture-like objects here are not merely things to be used or owned, but carriers of potential—active participants in storytelling loops that link the imagined with the real, the intimate with the collective, and the human with the more-than-human. One might ask: what are these gardens (or field-scapes?) and myths advocating for, and in what ways might they shape our lives across generations? Gardener and thinker Gilles Clément has proposed the concept of the Jardin en Mouvement[3] (Garden in Motion), which characterises the garden not as a finished composition, a controlled territory, but as a space of constant change. “Birds, ants and mushrooms recognise no boundaries between territory that is policed and space that is wild.”[4] Communal gardens, where gardening is also understood through playful hybrid-making, visual gestures, or ‘emotive craft’, offer space to learn of nonviolent coexistence. These become sites of social healing across neighbourhoods, enabling their inhabitants to leave behind the compartmentalised, and standardised livelihoods shaped by a legacy of top-down modernist planning. Perhaps these are not merely gardens, but urban rehearsals for other ways of being—ways that resist reduction, and the conversion of life into globally aestheticised commodities and experiences. Culture Moves Europe, The Loft Atelier, Clara Vicente, Wnoozow, Mirjam Külm, Daria Morozova, Gonçalo Barreiros, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea ‘The Maritime tale of the Hermit Crab’ references the life of hermit crab as a metaphor to address issues of dislocation, homelessness, vulnerability and loneliness in contemporary society. The hermit crab is the only crab that is born without a shell, instead it used found objects, most commonly sea shells as its home. However, with recent pollution issues, bottle tops, fragments of cans and other plastic waste have increasingly become used by the crabs as their shells. As the crab grows it needs to upgrade shells. This is usually done in cooperation with other crabs once a new empty shell is discovered on the beach through making an orderly queue to swap hand-me-down shells from the biggest crab to the smallest. This utopian collaboration is not always successful, however, as there may be more competition for one or more shells, leaving some crabs shell-less and in perilous danger of dying, for they cannot survive long without a shell. This installation commissioned by MAAT Museum roots in the notion of “the body as a home” in psychological terms. With the ever-growing use of technology, online connectedness, heightened travel, precarious living and financial conditions for many of us, we have become increasingly disconnected from ourselves. Seeking one’s own ‘body as a home’ is the first step toward regaining a connection with ourselves and reaching out to form communities. The issues of rising homelessness and the housing crisis in Lisbon, the city where the artist lives and works in, are highlighted in this work, whilst simultaneaously it is also a story of hope and finding a home in a new country, about adaptation and assimilation, about merging one’s own culture with the culture of an adopted country.&nbsp; <img width="854" height="1280" width_o="854" A large textile structure in the form of a pillar with costumes mimicking shells that the audience can enter and inhabit as well as a stage for a 5 person choir that sings a ballad of the hermit crab specially composed by Mirjam Külm in Estonian, Welsh and Portuguese languages. Further, there are 3 crabs without their shells (made from basic buling materials used in construction) homeless so-to-say, displayed in the machine rooms of the MAAT Museum attempting to the use the space as their homes, squeezing their delicate fabric bodies in-between the machines. (1984, Geneva is characterised by her interest in the&nbsp;relationships between nature and architecture, philosophy and art, as well as by her exploration of contemporary issues at the intersection of these disciplines. Having lived in Lisbon for the past six years, but with a vast life experience in several different cities around the world, Jokhova uses the life story of the hermit crab as a metaphor to reflect on Lisbon - a city in flux that is currently grappling with the dramatic effects of the housing crisis and its impact on society and the urban landscape. A city is not merely a physical space; it is a place in which we develop our relationships and where collective practices emerge. This issue raises countless questions related to public policy, social justice, human dignity, culture, and identity... The Maritime Tale of the Hermit Crab can act as a springboard for a range of interpretations and conversations. However, our focus here is on the ideas of shelter and belonging that are so fundamental to Jokhova's practice. The hermit crab is the only member of its species born without a shell, and must therefore rely on the empty shells of other molluscs for its protection and survival. The shells it finds throughout its life become its shelters and are thus representations of safety and survival. Our sense of belonging does not stem solely from our connection to a shell or to a home, but also from the emotional, identity-based and affective bonds we have with our surroundings, our social and cultural embeddedness, and the roles we play in the interpersonal relationships that shape a place. In both cases, we are referring to existential comfort and the meaning of life. Jokhova's practice navigates these terrains from places that are tough, fragile, and real-but also replete with possibility and dreams. In the space at MAAT, hidden amongst the original machinery of the Central Tejo thermoelectric station, are three crab sculptures — seemingly abandoned,&nbsp;camouflaged, or protected by the metal structures of the power plant. In her large-scale textile installation, Evy Jokhova continues her work around a trilogy of colours — green, shadow, and flesh. This trilogy began in 2022 at gallery 3+1 Arte Contemporânea in Lisbon with the exhibition Three Colours: Green, followed by Three Colours: Shadow at the Galeria Municipal de Arte de Almada in 2023, and concluded with Three Colours:&nbsp;Flesh, also at 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, in 2025. For the exhibition of the 15th edition of the EDP&nbsp;Foundation New Artists Award, we find these very same hues, suggesting a direct link between the works — all of which address what lies within us, beneath our skin, our structure and survival, our limits and boundaries, and the gestures of transgression that are so intrinsic to the human condition. Also entangled in the fabric the artist has chosen to work with is a clear connection between the installation and its embodied action, and this comes through our physical engagement when putting on the crab claws), as well as the activations and performances that are also part of the piece. These may have been devised by the artist — such as the musical performances — or merely facilitated by her in the creation of a work that can be worn. We can become the body and give form to her exploration. Evy Jokhova's artistic practice is rooted in strongly collaborative and feminist methodologies and processes. To create this piece, she used fabric-dyeing techniques, embroidery, and crochet — practices traditionally associated with women who often depend on such skills for economic survival. Jokhova also invited the Estonian artist Miriam Hulm to compose a piece of music blending Estonian folk with traditional Portuguese singing. During the exhibition, the piece is sung in both Estonian and Portuguese as a symbol of union between the two cultures. Three Colours: Green is the result of research developed by the artist during this period. By experiencing everyday life as all encompassing rituals, which involve all elements in a relationship of interdependence, the artist explored unique modes of care, rooted in the idea of totality. Reactivating ancestral knowledge that requires a renewed look at nature, its richness, and processes, Evy Jokhova invites us to think about the potential of the primal, legitimizing it and seeking to affirm its space in contemporary culture. In the exhibition, ceramics can be seen, in some cases, in dialogue with organic elements; textiles dyed using plants [yakushapana], harvested during the artist’s stay with the community; and also a participatory event in which the public will be invited to share a meal. Shared food brings to the exhibition the notion of interdependence. re-told many times. The story is recreated through the setting of a long dining table with handmade ceramic vessels and metre long cutlery produced by the artist. The installation is activated through performances where members of the audience join for a dinner of foraged plant-based food served in animal shaped ceramic dishes using this extensively long cutlery. Kieslowski's trilogy of the three colors (Blue, White, and Red) were films that&nbsp;marked my youth. Blue and Red, in particular, with two extraordinary protagonists - Irène&nbsp;Jacob and Juliette Binoche - spoke to me of a deep melancholy and a need for connection.&nbsp;Kieslowski takes special care with staging, with gesture, with the importance of color as&nbsp;experience, or perception, of the world. In the exhibition "Three colors: Shadow" Evy Jokhova makes a direct reference to Kieslowski's trilogy, transforming the meaning of colors, proposing new reflections. Shadow is the second moment of Jokhova's trilogy, but what color is this? Scientifically, Shadow is not a color, it is rather the color of the surface where it incurs only darker. In 1704 Newton wrote Optics where he explains that color is a physical phenomenon that comes from light. Shortly thereafter, Goethe proposed the Color Theory, disagreeing with Newton, and stating that color is shaped by perception, light, and darkness. "Color is a degree of darkness," he wrote. Goethe thinks of color through our experience of it and the emotion it provokes. Thus, we can think of shadow as a color that transforms and adapts, a kind of chameleon. <img width="2205" height="1345" width_o="2205" height_o="1345" Shadow is the color of interiority, of home, of secrets and intimacy. It is the color of small gestures, of slow, almost imperceptible movements. It is the color of the double of each visitor as they stroll through the space. Back to literature, in 1933 Junichiro Tanizaki wrote an essay entitled "In Praise of Shadows" in which the Japanese writer criticized the excess of light in the West, the exuberance of&nbsp;colors, defending an oriental aesthetic of recollection, of detail, of deviation. Jokhova explores this possibility of deviation, of concentration on minute details. Nothing is exuberant, nothing is excessive. All the works dwell on small movements. Perhaps because&nbsp;of this, the hand is the protagonist of the drawings. Beyond the superficiality of light, indoors, in the shadows, we find an aesthetic of care, of attention. An ambiguous universe, strange, disconcerting, with recurrent sexual allusions. A universe of scarring too, of repair, of the imperfections that define our identity, that make us more resistant, that help us face adversity. And it is in this shadow that we sit at the table, that we celebrate our different bodies, transformed (by what we eat, but by time, by life). At this table that praises shadows, we drink tea, we meditate, we listen to poetry, we look into each other's eyes, we watch the movements of hands. We eat bread, rituals of the daily life of a house, rituals intensified by the awareness of the presence, or absence, of the other. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Drawing on a vast lexicon of cultural references, the artist creates works that mix or combine symbols, deconstructing meanings and generating new interpretations. Her exhibitions are designed to create specific environments, which are often complemented by performative actions, both by the artist and the visitors. Three Colours: Flesh is the latest exhibition and final in a series that began at 3+1 Arte Contemporânea gallery in 2022 with Three Colours: Green, followed by Three Colours: Shadow in 2023, at the Municipal Art Gallery of Almada. Inspired by the trilogy of films directed by Kieślowski, Three Colours: Blue, White and Red, each of the exhibitions explores a different colour chosen by the artist and the emotions associated with it. In contemporary times, it is strongly associated with the feminine universe and the notion of beauty. But in Three Colours: Flesh the colour pink can also contain more violent realities. The title of the exhibition is an intentional clue to the feelings the artist seeks to explore, as the word “flesh” evokes quite different sensations than the word pink: rougher and more primal. Using seemingly beautiful imagery – at least at first glance –, that reveals somewhat cruel themes upon closer inspection, Jokhova illustrates the basic truths of the human body: hunger, violence, instinct, possession and power. Through the duration of the exhibition there will be several performances by the artist hosted at the gallery and the room sheet will include a text by Deniz Kirkali. <img width="8858" height="5908" The largest-ever exhibition to focus on the relationship between art and the environment in Estonia is centred around three themes: rethinking Estonian art history from an eco-critical perspective, the possibilities of contemporary art in coping with the environmental crisis, and the “green museum”.&nbsp;At the centre of the exhibition is the question: is art possible and needed during an environmental crisis? Curators: Linda Kaljundi, Eha Komissarov, Ulrike Plath, Bart Pushaw and Tiiu Saadoja→&nbsp;Public Performance Programme with wild fermented food Site-specific installation: stone and earthenware ceramics, nettle fabric, handwoven textileswith sheep and dog yarn, fermented foods, recycled wood, acrylic and faux fur “Waiting for geological time” takes its point of departure from the architecture of burial sites, caves, tombs, and temples. Two large modular pillars presiding over a cross shaped stairway host an arrangement of ceramic vessels for food preserving, figurines, woven and embroidered textiles. Behind the structure are two long textile banners ready to be worn as blankets on a carriage ride.The motif of the garden gnome permeates throughout the installation. They depict the need to minimize or “dwarf” the human impact and are guiding us the way to a lucky anti-anthropocene, where the human has minimized its footprint. <img width="4000" height="2668" process of beingdwarfed also has a pinch of brutality, nastiness and maybe even horror. The fictional remnants presented as museum relics can tell us their story if we let imagination lead theway. In Kumu courtyard stand more gnomes, like X that marks the spot – indicating where food is buried and fermenting underground. Many of the objects in the installation are made using traditional techniques: foraged wild foods, pet fur for weaving, burying food as a form of refrigeration; not only to preserve the techniques but as a way of re-learning and re-introducing them into the contemporary. As often in the Anthropocene, remembering tribal and ancient crafts and techniques is perceived as a solution. Creating new narratives from a blend of old and new, suggesting a future direction where both can cohabit. It is important to the artist that the installation would be accessible to visitors. Jokhova is inviting people to climb the stairs and interact with it, to be part of the blessed and ancient dwarfing ritual, suggesting a space where communities gather. never the word The constant need for a verbal anchoring of things that are non-verbal in themselves is an ancient invention. Its reinvented perpetuation presents itself as a fallacy that constitutes asymmetric and persistent power relations, while remaining an imperious premise that dictates hierarchies between different forms of knowledge. The biblical narrative itself, pegs on the Word the burden of the world's creation: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”. The binding of the Word with the primordial and the omnipotent, compromised (and still compromises) several epistemic powers that are established within the sensory and affective fields. The obligation to establish referents (albeit arbitrary), without significant flexibility, it is seen as a method for monitoring and controlling the imaginary and the symbolic. The works of Evy Jokhova and Mané Pacheco resist this cultural sedimentation by the word-authority, recovering a ritualistic imagery that escapes a title or a specific chrono-location. The two artists call for an ancestry of connection to the Earth, designed in the present, questioning places of simultaneous knowledge, recognition and ignorance, which promote a much-needed ecology of knowing and feeling. This inclusive and regenerative ecology is formulated around an ecofeminist care and view that incorporates the invisible work of others, the coexistence (of living beings, species, conditions, stories, etc.) devoid of the extractivist will that, so often, guides the contemporary. The use and recycling of materials and supplies in the art works undermine structural conformity systems: the new, the scale, the narrative. Nature and the natural, technology and technique come together to deconstruct the normativity of ways of seeing, almost always dependent on academicism and a belief system. In this exhibition, there is no landscape. There is form, shapelessness and deformity: a deconstruction of the artificial and the conditioned way we observe the natural. The snake, an element which both artists were working on at the time the exhibition was conceived, serves as the agglutinating figure for these issues. These animals, which in most mythologies symbolize the dichotomy of good and evil, were present amongst the oldest known rituals in the history of mankind. However, in the Catholic (ever fictional) tradition, the snake is naturally deceitful, primarily responsible for human corruption and original sin. It is science, namely medicine and pharmacology, that preserves its symbolism in a clear reference to the simultaneous danger and curative capacity of its poisons. It is in this gap between the disease and the cure, the poison and the antidote, or the poison as an antidote, that the snake's (present) figure places the exhibition in a (desired) place of ambiguity. The visual (and haptic) relations proposed, between the works and between the practices of both artists, do not appear as a linear link or a programmatic prescription for the exhibition. Each creation(-creature) could easily exchange places because more than being in dialogue, the works respond to a logic of mutually constitutive. However, the singularity of each author is clear. If there are obvious affinities between Jokhova and Pacheco, both in the thematic magma explored and in the speculative manual making, their approach, materials and techniques remain completely distinct. As a matter of fact, the entire exhibition can be seen as a challenge to sameness, and the impossibility of the same, even if among equals. There are revelations in opacity, unspeakable transparencies, mournful silences in the (mute) sudden noises. Therefore, exploring the exhibition and reading this text are non-related exercises. In fact, this text says nothing on what the exhibition is about because, if in the beginning it was never the word, in the end it won’t be either. Biennale 2020 for the On Photographic Beings exhibition at the Latvian National of Art curated by Paulius Petraitis. The work is formed of a site-specific sculpture and a Super-8 film shot during the pandemic lockdown in Austria.&nbsp; On Photographic Beings explores the failure of fully grasping. The display sets out to investigate photographic beings as multidimensional, complex and often ambiguous. Artists featured in the exhibition specifically look into the various facets of the object-image relationship. This connection, which is traditionally viewed as stemming from an object and resulting in an image, is shown here to be more elaborate and intricate than it at first appears.Photographic images are routinely attributed a hold that is exercised over objects. It is as if the camera arrests and grasps – providing a suspended look into objecthood, which is somehow both insightful and (de)finite. In other words, the camera captures, the object seemingly left passive and defenseless in this one-way action.The three presented artists challenge this traditional view. British artist Tom Lovelace’s work stimulates a creative dialogue between imagery and objects, and posits itself as an intervention and interruption to the space’s regular existence. Belgian artist Ode de Kort adds to this dialogue by playfully uncovering the complexities of image-based (re)presentation. She explores ways to collaborate with artworks, indicating an object and its creator can be seen as working together. Evy Jokhova, of Russian, Estonian and UK multi-cultural background, uses the concept of mirroring in her consideration of reflection, mimicry and reproduction in photography. Focusing on these processes, she proposes to look at this essential function of photography from an unexpected angle. All artists respond to the specific setting – 4 th floor space of the Latvian National Museum of Art – in their suggestions to problematize the photographic capture.The works presented in the exhibition can be described as photographic, yet sit outside of the usual boundaries of the medium. They challenge the notion of what a photography exhibition is or can be, opting to discuss the photographic as a shifting lens and a notion that is primarily cultural. Through this, On Photographic Beings not only explores the potential of a photographic work to open up the complexity of the object-to-image translation through responding to the specific space, but also investigates some of the very possibilities of photography. Using the grid as a conceptual framework for social interaction and the role of women in domestic architecture Jokhova creates a site for reflection and engagement that questions our understanding of space and how our bodies interact within the domestic environment. The gallery space is transformed into an immersive/atmospheric experience where the artist creates a story line and a visual game for the audience to draw their own versions of this narrative by adding their personal references and archetypes to it. Thus building a communal sentiment and history through shared references and an individual’s willingness to engage. Drawing oblique references to architecture, women’s labour in the domestic environment, and body memory ‘Within these lines I operate’ opens a field of enquiry into how we gather as a society and the shared symbols that culturally bind us. The exhibition creates spaces that feel familiar, like a home, rife with potential for collectivity or contemplation. In this way, the exhibition evokes our need for common social narrative (rituals): common ground through which we might find ways to act together or respond to each other. The grid itself is not a place where you would like to surrender but is instead envisaged as an ‘everywhere’ in the human realm. Cities, patterns, the way we organise in our modern world, all have a tangible relation to the grid. We live inside grids and interact with the structure throughout our life often without paying any special notice of it. Grids shape our social relations, our body, gestures and the way we move within space. Evy Jokhova creates an atmosphere where the audience is encouraged to question these lines and forms, observe the social connotations they have, sense the place they may have in their life, and then attempt to surrender by creating new meanings. Shot on the Greek island of Delos the series depicts six fragmented marble statues that were badly restored in the 1960s. The oxidized filler and crumbling concrete that they were restored with appears as bruising and rashes on skin. The photographs are encased in concrete frames and hung over a vinyl image of skin surfaces with bruising, each of these bruises however is covered by another image and the final bruise is masked by one of the framed photographs, thus the ‘bruising’ visible to the viewer is only on the marble surfaces of the sculptures. ‘Bruised’. 2019.
