The participatory public performance ‘Heaven and Hell’ was developed by Evy Jokhova during the BijlmAIR residency with CBK Zuidoost 2017. Devised using the existing architecture of the Bijlmermeer in Amsterdam Zuidoost. The performance took place on the afternoon of Friday 21 April on the Monument Bijlmerramp - ‘Het Groeiend Monument’, Amsterdam.

‘Heaven and Hell’ is a participatory performance that restages the meal from the old tale of heaven and hell on the concrete picnic tables forming part of the original Bijlmermeer design. Members of the public are served a simple vegetarian pasta dish made by Jokhova and invited to participate in its consumption using 1 metre long cutlery and handmade ceramics in the shape of the Bijlmer development. As in the story of heaven and hell the cutlery is too long for each person to feed themselves but how the participants ate and whether they chose to work together and feed one another was entirely up to them.
